I feel that health and wellbeing is a variety of different practices that can make us feel whole and grounded, so we can live life feeling our best. From nutrition that nourishes us from within, to a combination of self care activities that help to calm the brain and allow you to function to your best abilities.
Life naturally has its ups and downs, but learning little techniques, will help you get through the tougher times at a much more manageable pace and give you the ability to make more conscious and mindful decisions.
Together we can take a deep delve into what practices work best for you and your life’s journey. I can help you make positive changes and give you guidance on how to incorporate them into your life’s schedule.
Let me take you through some of the practices I use and recommend.
Mindfulness
The ability to be fully present in the moment.
Mindfulness originates from a Buddhism term called sati, a significant element of Hindi and Buddhist traditions.
Mindfulness is a technique you can learn that involves noticing what is happening in the present moment without judgment or distraction. Being aware of our thoughts and feelings without getting caught up in them.
It works by taking your thoughts to the present and away from other thoughts. It is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing and not overwhelmed by the surroundings around us.
It can help you become more self aware, less stressed, calm, and it can help you choose how to deal with unwanted or negative thoughts.
In teaching the mind to be present we are teaching ourselves to live more mindfully.
Meditation
Meditation is a practice that helps to encourage and develop concentration, clarity, emotional positivity and inner peace. Meditation can help to quiet the mind so that we can rationally observe our thoughts and feelings.
There are many health benefits that meditation can offer including lowering blood pressure, lowers anxiety, relieving stress, preventing and helping to reduce the symptoms of mental health problems, and it can help to reduce physical pain.
Nature
Nature is just such an amazing and powerful thing. It has the ability to offer both physical and mental health benefits.
Nature can help to improve sleep, boost immune function, reduce high blood pressure, and relieve anxiety. Just 15 minutes spent in nature can have a significant impact in both reducing and preventing the conditions of mental health.
Trees have such amazing qualities and they are actually a huge life source for us living beings. They remove pollution from the air, they release chemicals that are both beneficial to our immune system and integral to our existence, and forests release medicinal aerosols that can decrease high blood pressure and suppress the flow of the stress hormone cortisol.
Blue Health
Blue health is the benefits that you can get from being by the sea, or in some cases, near water.
The fresh salty air is full of negative ions, which are believed to help alleviate the symptoms of depression and anxiety. The negative ions accelerate our ability to absorb oxygen and helps to balance serotonin levels, the happy hormone.
The higher levels of oxygen in the sea air can help to improve sleep.
Simply looking at the ocean and flowing water increases our neurotransmitters, elevating mood and positivity. It promotes dopamine, a feel good hormone connected to happiness.
The sounds of the sea relaxes the brain and a 2015 study showed that just spending time looking at the sea and skyline ahead can have improvements on mood and reduce heart rate.
Plants and trees that grow near water release phytoncides and when we breathe these in our white cells increase optimising our immune system.
Grounding
Grounding is where you walk or stand with bare feet in nature. This can be on grass, sand, or anywhere that you are connected to the earth. Grounding can help to improve mood, balance the nervous system, improve sleep, reduce stress, and lower inflammation.
